We follow the “LEAD ” Protocol for screening patients with LFS until age of 25, if they are cancer free and to age 26, if they are already established patients at our center. Through our St. Vincent’s foundation, we have been able to establish a “treatment / Diagnosis Access fund” that helps pay for tests that are not covered by insurance ( based on claims submitted and rejected).

LFS Screening Program
The Li-Fraumeni Program is housed within the Clinical Cancer Genetics Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The clinic is designed to provide augmented cancer screening and surveillance for individuals with a germline / inherited TP53 mutation consistent with Li-Fraumeni syndrome- a hereditary cancer syndrome with a high lifetime risk of many various cancers.
To set up an appointment, please contact us and specify that that you would like to be scheduled in the Li-Fraumeni Screening clinic. In general, LFS screening begins once a patient is ~6 months out from their active cancer diagnosis. We also follow unaffected individuals with LFS with high-risk surveillance (including whole-body MRIs).

Once diagnosed, we follow unaffected children and adolescents with LFS with recommended surveillance including wbMRI screening. We also treat LFS individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer with particular attention to treatment planning that takes into account their underlying LFS diagnosis. We have a partnership with an adult hereditary cancer program to allow for smooth transition of care when patients reach adulthood.

NCI-Designated Cancer Centers
Most large cancer centers have knowledge and expertise in hereditary cancer syndromes and have cancer genetics clinics that can help you with counseling, testing, surveillance & management, and cancer treatment. Not all of these centers will have the ability to do whole body MRI or to follow individuals with LFS for their annual surveillance – you will need to check ahead of scheduling an appointment.
